flashback friday: Field of Dreams

Now that there are Glimpses of Spring, I've been getting back to me. So much Inspiration along with this spring rain. I really feel like just shedding, shedding, shedding. Rebuilding everything. Knocking everything down and reconstructing. It's been the longest winter ever I swear. It's the first winter I have not taken a break from the bitter cold and trying to find ways to embrace it.

As I yearn for warmth's arrival, I multi task and edit some old pics on my phone, I look forward to days like these to come FLASHBACK FRIDAY; Enjoying a beautiful day in June; in one of the most special places in my world Inwood Hill Park <3

This is my childhood on a piece of land. Sunday's all the family would gather up to watch my Paino -godfather play softball with his team of friends from back in DR. I would treasure every second I could spend time with my cousins, being brought up in a traditional Dominican family, this is life. To value family, and so I did. I'd bike around and run around this park with all my cousins, adventuring, discovering, growing, living. This was the closest and largest open space of nature to me. As I grew up it became an escape from the everyday of the madness growing up becomes at point. I never knew exactly why I loved running away here, unafraid to just feel here. Today, I get it. It's that attachment we long for to childhood. That urge to hold on to forever, to the feeling of light and purity that is childhood. Every thing so clean and spotless, nothing tainting your vision yet, the weight life adds on isn't there yet, no dirt in your eyes. And every time I come here this is what lies at the root of my feel, this adoration for my childhood and who I was. This little girl ahead of her world, always ahead, over analyzing, noticing, learning at a faster speed, impatient to grow. Have you ever felt that way? Well I hope so, because that can only mean that you want more that is noticeably within reach and just like when you were a child you will do anything possible to get within reach of that prize, that purpose, that dream.

Spring will come. And So will Happiness.

Hold on. Life will get Warmer...

As every winter, most of my outer layer dies. This being the First year in a while I don't go away during the frigid war of NYC winter, it has been hard to manage but easier than I myself gave credit for. Finally, for the first time in weeks there are signs of spring in the air. It's been raining, that beautiful rain that you want to indulge in; the one that's washing all the yuck and snow away.

How do You stay Inspired under the Weather?

"Earth without Art is just Eh..."

The weather in New York has been typical winter weather in the East Coast. Brutal! Ok, Maybe i'm being Melodramatic but I am one that will never get used to it, ever! How can one get used to this?

The Energy is just off in all aspects, Everything Frozen, kind off lifeless. People are sick left and right and Nature is at a halt, nothing growing! Everything is just Gray, and don't get me wrong I love the color gray but I love it accessorized, with a POP of color here and there, the details making statements, making you feel something, like butterflies in an anxious tummy.

But coming into this year luckily I have been very busy and distracted. It may seem like I am lost or MIA through Social Media, but I am not. I am actually at a point where I appreciate Social Media soo much, not for the hrs of time wasted it provides, but for the endless sources of Inspiration it provides.

And I can admit I have been taking full advantage of it, trying to be delusional and disregard how cold or slushy it is outside.

PINTEREST has been a lifesaver! I am definitely Obsessed! But through it, I have tied up all my Passions in one place! Sometimes I swear my heart has mini heartgasms heart attack+orgasm <<33
Can you believe I have yet to create a Board! Just Heart this and Heart that times 8,000 but I will create them sooner than later!

This is a Vintage Pendant by Rene Lalique, a french glass sculptor that takes my breath away! His pieces are unreal, and to think that this was all created about 100 years ago, without technology, by hand! The details are astonishing,

I can feel the passion in all his work. It must take a lot of love and drive to have created something that intricate, and I can only imagine the time and dedication and patience. But this is the purpose, this is what all Artist want, Right? To make you feel something , anything with their work. Thank you, this is beyond Appreciated.
Lalique.

Since I discovered Etsy in 2010, I have truly fell in love with Vintage fashion. I grew up a bit old school in some ways because of my mother, and I have to admit I am drawn to timeless classic pieces. Before Etsy, I thought I was just a boring soul, attracted to "weird" things. Little did I know that my attraction for classic and timelessness would open up doors to pieces of me I didn't know existed. Within the past 5 years, I have discovered that everything that this heart beats for ties up together. I even decided to open up a shop on Etsy, which turned out great until Etsy changed all it's policies :( Nonetheless, NATURE, CULTURE, ART, STYLE, SELF EXPRESSION, LOVE, these are all incorporated in these pieces.

And this is how I will try to carry my life as well on a regular basis. January was all about Activation; doing, and doing. I had many blog post ideas as always but this weather is impossible to do anything in, so I will hold them off instead of trying to force myself to create where I can't. So until the weather is better I will continue doing, and keeping myself motivated with the sources at hand. I love combining Vintage with all the Modern styles, it is the Epitome of Chic with a touch of Boho... Let's Not Get Started!

It is the first Monday of February and I feel like slowly but surely I am returning to myself.
Feb is all about LOVE my favorite word, so I am trying to stay above the weather by continuing to stay safe and warm within the arms of my love. I hope everyone does too!!! Remember to show Appreciation to your Loved Ones, not just on Valentine's Day, every single day.

Speaking of Social Media, I love Instagram for Inspiration more than anything, to stay in touch with what's happening now, and what people are up to, it is what I mostly update, feel free to Follow #BREATHESTYLESMILE <3

Welcome 2015

"Be thankful for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow."

NYC is a ghost town today! The rarity is indeed refreshing. Just like Christmas day, the city is calm and collective compared to the bustling metropolis and its natural ways.

Today, Thursday Jan 1st, 2015; is hauntingly beautiful to me.

Ironically I am a zombie today, as I had to be at work today after last night’s New Year's Eve festivities which I rushed to after work,  LOL I swear I'm restless...But that's what my life has been recently. And that's what 2014 was for me as well, Restless, in every direction of my life. From personal to professional, 2014 was a year of hardship, and heartache, but also a year I must Appreciate, a year that taught me to be Grateful for Everything the universe decides to throw my way, whether I can control it or not.

This year I am inspired to reach Serenity with Grace every step of the way. Realistically I am the type of person that feels the need to control everything and 2014 the Universe decided to teach me that I have no control. It forced me to accept that life is actually happening and that time does not stop for anyone. 2014 knocked me down and beat sense into me. From going back to school after time off and at the same time getting a promotion for a new position in a great company, having to retain so much information at once, I do not know how my brain isn't fried; because my body sure is. To the most recent event which was the loss of my grandfather, the first death my family has yet to experience, to everything else we must endure and then some. Basically 2014 ripped me apart, shredded my withered layers to give light to new and pure skin. 2014 will forever be a pure sign of significant growth in my heart, where I was forced to really dig inside of the pit of myself, and figure out a way to heal and mend my soul.

And that's what I vow 2015 to be, a year of restoration and rejuvenation, a year to get back to my healthier adaptations but better. This year is a continuation of myself love and growth. A year I hope to truly fall in Love with Myself and to do, not wait as I always do, just DO, DO, and DO for the better of my being and I hope the same for the rest of us.

Universe,
I thank you for teaching me the Value of Myself, for teaching me Gratitude towards all the beauty we are blessed with, to teaching me that patience is a virtue; therefore I must work on it every day forever and that time is of the essence, Life is actually happening NOW, why wait to Live? Nothing is forever, except LOVE...
The Soul of the Soul of the Universe is Love _ Rumi

WHAT I WORE:
Within my Culture, when someone passes, especially someone very important in your family, they are used to paying respect by "Guardando Luto" which me wearing White on New Years of course probably caused a stir in a few of my family members closed up brains. I'm OK with that; both my mother and her father; which was my grandfather that passed know me and understand me. They understand that I do not mean any disrespect. They understand that I am an artist and I must express how I feel in the best way I know how; through my style.
I'm at Peace with my grandfather’s death, yes sadness fills my heart because I know I will never see him again but I have no dark feelings towards it.
During "Luto" we are only supposed to wear Black or dark colors... But that just isn't me. Through the funeral and burial and all the holy celebrations we had to go through, and for an entire 2 weeks I have worn black, it also helps that it is Winter and I have a uniform for this cold weather I refuse to get used to!
But to bring in the New Year I did not want to wear anything dark. I wanted to be as light and welcoming as possible. I wanted to show purity, just like I wanted for my grandfather’s funeral.
2015 is about Embodiment of Self for me, so I welcomed the year with a cute White dress from a local boutique I picked up last minute with Shimmery gold filled sleeves, so versatile I can wear all year around! White is always one of my favorite colors to wear, a classic. I accessorized with Rose Gold everything, which has been my recent obsession! My favorite Metallic: Rose Gold! So I entered the year all ME with a touch of Magic Sparkle, my way!

Force of Nature

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be." _ Anne Frank

It is not the end of the Summer yet, not Officially at least till the 22nd. And yes knowing me I will squeeze the Summer out of the next few weeks, but undoubtedly I am happy that September has officially started. From Fashion Week to the commence of a new school year, I look forward to what this new Grind Year has yet to offer.

September to me is a huge Recycle sign.
